| Nepal
and India Agree on Transborder Wildlife Conservation |
| |
| In a bid to achieve
sustainable and long term biodiversity conservation, new
avenues for trans-boundary cooperation have been opened
up between Nepal and India. In addition to sharing regular
communication and coordination, conservation officials
from both neighboring countries have reached an agreement
to open up new protected areas near national parks and
conservation areas along the borders. The new protected
areas will connect Nepal's parks to those of India. Experts
believe that setting up of corridors to connect two parks
situated close to each other would facilitate the trans-boundary
movement of wildlife. |

| The Second Trans-boundary
Consultative Meeting of conservation officials from both
countries concluded last week in the Indian capital of
New Delhi with a decision to go ahead with active trans-boundary
cooperation and coordination efforts for the conservation
of endangered plants and animals. |
| |
| The officials are
working on more eco-development programs in and around
the parks along the borders to facilitate movement of
aquatic animals in Trans-border Rivers. They have agreed
to strictly implement each other's legislation and agreed
to work together on other issues surrounding biodiversity
conservation, according to a 14-point resolution agreed
upon during the Delhi meeting. |
